MCKINNEY HOMEOWNER GUIDE

Water Filtration Maintenance Guide

A plain-English schedule for filters, media, membranes and salt.

Build a schedule from the actual model

Keep model and serial numbers, part numbers, installation date and the manual together. Sediment filters, carbon, softener resin and RO membranes have different service requirements. A single annual interval cannot establish the correct schedule for every component.

Record performance and service history. Pressure loss, hard-water return, taste changes or an error code deserve investigation, but do not identify one universal cause. Follow manufacturer instructions for flushing and sanitation and verify performance after work. Use the system bypass and shutoff as documented.

THE PROCESS

Different equipment does different work.

  1. Sediment protection catches particulate that can burden downstream equipment.
  2. Activated carbon adsorbs chlorine taste, odor and selected organics.
  3. Ion exchange removes calcium and magnesium hardness that causes scale.
  4. Reverse osmosis treats a dedicated drinking-water stream at the kitchen.

Not every home needs every stage. The best design starts with your actual concern, household flow and the maintenance you are willing to own.
