Reverse Osmosis vs. Carbon Filtration
Different processes for different drinking-water goals.
Taste treatment versus membrane treatment
Carbon can address defined taste and odor concerns. An RO system combines prefiltration with a membrane for a dedicated drinking-water stream. Compare certified reduction claims for the exact model, not an assumption that either process removes everything.
Carbon replacement intervals depend on use and the model specification. RO adds membrane performance, pressure, storage and wastewater considerations. For chloramine goals, check the applicable claim; a chlorine-only claim is different. Whole-home scale remains a separate hardness-treatment decision.
