Whole-House vs. Under-Sink Filtration
Choose the treatment location that matches the problem.
Treat every fixture or one drinking tap?
Whole-house filtration works at the point of entry and must suit simultaneous demand. A point-of-use system treats a kitchen or other selected outlet and can be a simpler answer to a drinking-water preference. The location of treatment defines which fixtures benefit.
Compare your objective, expected flow, maintenance access and certified claims. An under-sink RO unit will not prevent mineral scale in the shower. Whole-house carbon will not soften water. A combination can be appropriate when each stage serves a separate documented goal.

Different equipment does different work.
- Sediment protection catches particulate that can burden downstream equipment.
- Activated carbon adsorbs chlorine taste, odor and selected organics.
- Ion exchange removes calcium and magnesium hardness that causes scale.
- Reverse osmosis treats a dedicated drinking-water stream at the kitchen.
Not every home needs every stage. The best design starts with your actual concern, household flow and the maintenance you are willing to own.
